EMERGENCY SITUATION AT THE MUNICIPALITIES OF BOJAYÁ AND VIGÍA DEL FUERTE
On April 21st paramilitaries seized the municipal main towns of Vigía del Fuerte (Antioquia) and Bellavista (Chocó).
On May 1st, of the current year, the FARC and the paramilitaries engaged in combat around these same towns.
On the afternoon of May 2nd, in the midst of an armed confrontation, an explosive device exploded in the Catholic Chapel of Bellavista where a large portion of the civil population was sheltered, with the following results:
103 killed (estimated only), mainly youngsters and children
19 seriously wounded who have been referred to Medellín
95 approximate number of wounded, slightly injured who were looked after at the
hospital of Vigía de Fuerte
80 missing, among them the priest Janeiro Jiménez Atencio
These results add to the suffering of the winter flooding emergency that has also contributed to an unknown number of victims and material loss.
Today, May 5th, it was reported from Vigía del Fuerte that State-lead military operations are impeding the search for missing people, looking for the wounded and the displaced, funerals for the casualties and the arrival of humanitarian commissions providing medical assistance. Again, the lives of the civil population, laymen, religious Claretians, Verbo Divino, Augustinians, Lauritian, Salvadorans, the Diocesan Social Ministries Team and priests are in grave danger. We are calling on the Colombian government to stop the military operations that are risking the lives of these people.
Given the continued confrontation-now intensified by the intervention of the Air Force and the Navy-it can be foreseen that in addition to the number of victims an additional twenty thousand people may be displaced from the municipalities of El Carmen de Darién and Bellavista (Chocó), Murindó and Vigía del Fuerte (Antioquia)
We are requesting that religious communities, national and international human rights organizations, the diplomatic corps accredited in Colombia, the United Nations and all persons and organizations demand from the Colombian government that the military operations cease. Your effective solidarity can also be translated in terms of:
Non-perishable basic foods
Medicines: analgesics, gauze, antibiotics, distilled water, oral rehydration salts, anti-tetanic, anti-hypertensives and anxiety depressors
Linen: sheets, mosquito nets, light mattresses
Clothing for adults and children
Qualified personnel for providing psychological/social assistance
Personal toilet articles

SITUACIÓN DE EMERGENCIA DE LOS MUNICIPIOS DE BOJAYÁ Y VIGÍA DEL FUERTE
El día 21 de abril los paramilitares tomaron posesión de las cabeceras municipales de Vigía del Fuerte (Antioquia) y Bellavista (Chocó).
El día 1 de mayo del año en curso se iniciaron combates entre las FARC y los paramilitares en estas mismas poblaciones.
En la tarde del día 2 de mayo, en medio de la confrontación armada cayó un artefacto explosivo en la Capilla Católica de Bellavista donde se encontraba una parte de la población civil refugiada, con los siguientes resultados:
103 muertos (se presumen más), en su mayoría jóvenes y niños
19 heridos de gravedad trasladados a Medellín
95 heridos, aproximadamente, con heridas leves, atendidos en el hospital de Vigía de Fuerte
80 desaparecidos, entre ellos el sacerdote Janeiro Jiménez Atencio
Estos hechos se suman a la emergencia invernal que también cobró víctimas y perdidas materiales aún sin precisar.
Hoy 5 de mayo, se informa desde Vigía del Fuerte que se están presentando acciones militares estatales que impiden la búsqueda de desaparecidos, la atención de heridos y desplazados, el entierro de los muertos y el arribo de comisiones humanitarias con ayudas de emergencia. Nuevamente la vida de la población civil, laicos, misioneros Claretianos, del Verbo Divino, Hermanas Agustinas, Hermanas Lauritas, Hermanas Salvatorianas, Equipo Evangelizador Diocesano y sacerdotes se encuentran en grave peligro. Clamamos al gobierno colombiano que cese las operaciones militares que está poniendo en riesgo la vida de estas personas.
Ante la continuación de los enfrentamientos, ahora con intervención de la aviación y la fuerza naval, se prevé, además de víctimas, un desplazamiento de más de veinte mil personas de los municipios de El Carmen de Darién y Bellavista (Chocó), Murindó y Vigía del Fuerte (Antioquia)
A las comunidades religiosas, a Organizaciones de Derechos Humanos nacionales e internacionales, al cuerpo diplomático acreditado en Colombia, a las Naciones Unidas, y a todas las personas y organismos, estamos solicitándoles que exijan al gobierno de Colombia que cese las operaciones militares. También, su solidaridad efectiva traducida en:
Alimentos de primera necesidad no perecederos
Medicinas: analgésicos, gasa, antibióticos, agua destilada, suero oral, antitetánicas, antihipertensivos y ansiolíticos
Ropa de cama: sábanas, toldillos, colchonetas
Vestidos para adultos y niños
Personal cualificado para ayuda sicosocial
Implementos de aseo personal
Comisión Vida, Justicia y Paz
