Description: This video is about the earthquake of June, 1994, that affected the Indigenous population in the Tierradentro area. Over 1500 people died, and 29,000 Indigenous and peasant families were left homeless. Political figures, then in process of election campaign utilized the situation to gain votes, while the Indigenous organizations and their communities were left alone to deal with the disaster. Indigenous leaders and shamans discuss the meaning of the earthquake for the Indigenous cultures that inhabit the area. For them is the spiritual response of the earth to the processes of disintegration of their communities, and the effects of the careless use of the land.
