In cases in which the perpetrator was identified credibly, from January through September 1998:

• Government forces responsible for at least 21 extrajudicial killings

• Paramilitary forces responsible for at least 573 extrajudicial killings

• Guerrilla forces responsible for at least 160 extrajudicial killings

Some 308,000 Persons Were Forcibly Displaced From Their Homes By

Violence During 1998

• Government forces responsible for 6 percent

• Paramilitary forces responsible for 54 percent
